Runners from all around Joburg gathered at the Randburg Harries for yet another successful Valentine’s Night 10km race on February 16.
The various food stalls and, a fully stocked bar, water, and drinks were available for the participants after the race. Runners were dressed to impress with vibrant colours, tutus, wings, wigs, crowns, and tiaras.
Just over 2000 runners and walkers were at the start line. That’s not counting the marshals, volunteers, friends and families who just attended the festivities.
Randburg Harriers public relations officer and media liaison Buwi Moeketsi explained that the attendance was good, and the day turned out to be out busiest day for manual entries.
“Of course, it wouldn’t have hurt to have more participants, but we still had a good turnout. It lived up to its name ‘bringing romance and running together’. The atmosphere was amazing. The outfits were fun. Most of the runners made an effort.”
She added that witnessing everything come together and seeing the happy faces of the participants were her best highlights.
“The compliments we received. Just being there to experience the results of the hard work that was put in.”
Reintroducing the coffee mug, a longtime favourite, was also largely well-received. A significant number of the runners expressed their satisfaction with their return, having collected them over the years.
Some of the sponsors had different challenges and fun activities at their stalls. There was a selfie frame by Vumatel and a hanging challenge, courtesy of City Rock.
“In the end, it was an awesome experience. Well worth the sweat that went into making it happen. Our expectations were met. From the absolute bottom of our hearts, thank you to the running community for the amazing support. To our awesome volunteers, the run wouldn’t have been possible without you. Thank you for sacrificing your Friday night. We appreciate you.”
