Randburg Harries to host 35th Valentine’s race

Moeketsi explained that they are expecting a large turn-out of new and familiar runners and walkers who want to test themselves.

Randburg Harriers public relations officer and media liaison Buwi Moeketsi invites residents to participate and support their 35th Valentine’s 10km Night Race on February 16.

The race started in 1989, as a way to take advantage of the newly installed streetlights, by the Randburg City Council. It was a different kind of race which also assured the safety of the participants.

35 years later the race is one of the biggest nights and the only event in the community that brings romance and running, together.

“It’s a fun night of fitness that also celebrates love, friendship, and a sense of community. Anyone from the age of 14 may join. They don’t have to be seasoned runners or runners at all. Walkers are also welcome. We encourage participants to invite their friends, partners, and colleagues.”

She confirmed that JMPD will be deployed in areas with heavy traffic flow. “There’ll be vibrant marshals throughout the route, to prevent anyone from getting lost and our on-route entertainment is available, it is always what makes this race a favourite. We are known for a night race that always turns out to be a fun night out.”

No one will go hungry with the various food stalls and, a fully stocked bar to quench the thirst after the race. Runners are encouraged to dress to impress. Usually, people wear vibrant colours, tutus, wings, wigs, crowns, and tiaras.

“Preparations are going according to plans. We have different sponsors on board. Everything is on track for a night the participants won’t forget.”
