Randburg Bowls Club is for everyone

Randburg Bowls Club accept every bowlers that wants to learn and improve their skills in the sport.

Boskruin based Randburg Bowls Club proved that bowls truly a club for all ages.

In their recent club competition, 81-year-old John Alford-Smith squared off against 11-year-old Jack Kennedy, in the men’s open singles competition.

Some excellent bowls was played, with Alford-Smith counting on his experience to emerge as the winner, but not before young Jack who has been playing bowls for under a year played some excellent bowls and made his opponent work for his victory.

Giving his insight on the game Alford-Smith said he is glad that he played him this year, and happy with the way he is playing and improving. “I am sure it would be a very different game next year.”

Jack explained that it was a nice game and John played very well. “I will carry on practising and improving in the sport that I love.

Randburg Bowls Club is a vibrant, happy club that caters for all ages, and all levels of bowler, whether you are an aspirant Protea’s bowler, or a social bowler.

Vice club president, Laurie Stafford said, “We would welcome any potential new bowler to contact us, and we have a number of qualified coaches who will teach you the game of bowls.

The club has got an active junior section and some as young as eight who have played provincial bowls. The club has provincial representation in the U15, U18, U25 and U30 age groups.

They also offer social interaction and regularly organise social events such as quizzes, musical quizzes, musical bingo, and many more.

“Bowls is a sport where three generations can play the game and all play together, one of the few sports, where generations can enjoy competing in the same sport together,” added Stafford.
