Devon Steenkamp wishes residents happy Christmas

Steenkamp said that his Christmas wish is to express his heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported his efforts this year and hopes to inspire more people to come forward and volunteer, drive positive changes in our ward, and help us tackle the challenges we face.

Ward 134 Councillor Devon Steenkamp representing the DA explained that it’s an honor to represent the constituents of this ward and uphold the values and principles of my party.

He explained that the year 2023 has been quite eventful, with significant moments like the voter registration weekend in November. “It was inspiring to see many young people registering to vote for the first time, acknowledging the importance of the upcoming elections.”

“Another highlight includes assisting our senior residents with their pensioner rebate applications. We also had the privilege of making community donations to support the less fortunate, which underscores my commitment to serving and uplifting our community.”

Steenkamp named Tracey Cownley as this year’s local hero. “Her dedication to our community is exemplary; she has been instrumental in organising donation drop-offs, assisting with numerous calls for assistance, and participating in oversight visits. Her tireless efforts in assisting in distributing donations to Kya Sand’s informal settlements have made a significant impact.”

One of the major challenges Ward 134 faced was addressing basic services like electricity and water supply. The councillor explained that these are critical issues, and he is committed to continually bringing them to the attention of the executive.

“With the community input, we can continue to drive working on solutions to maintain, upgrade, and secure our infrastructure to ensure reliable service delivery.”

“This Christmas, I wish for unity within our community. It’s time to forgive past grievances, even those shared in moments of frustration, like on community WhatsApp groups. Let’s work together to overcome our challenges. Your support and cooperation are vital for the progress of our community.”
