Linden CPF and police launch 16 Days of Activism in Windsor

Abdool explained that the more education and awareness there is, the more people will report GBV cases, and people will be less stigmatised and fearful of it.

Community members of all ages flocked to the Windsor East Clinic to attend the 16 Days of Activism launch, hosted by the Linden police and Community Policing Forum.

At the event, young ones from nearby nursery schools were taught about road safety by JMPD community outreach officer Zogan Ebrahim. They also enjoyed the snacks and popcorn that Beagle Watch provided.
Older learners and residents were given information about gender-based violence, enjoying a healthy lifestyle, domestic violence, and care for the elderly.

Linden Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Shaid Abdool said there was a scourge of GBV in the country.
“We are not immune to that problem,” he said. “We have it in the richest and the poorest of areas. It is our job as the SAPS to provide programmes like this and also bring the community together with various stakeholders and shareholders, in the interest of eradicating GBV.”
The chairperson of the Linden CPF Annelise Tichauer said the clinic was the heartbeat of the Windsor community.

“We wanted to bring valuable information to the community and some of the local senior schools, combined with a fun educational outing for the pre-schoolers because sometimes all you need is some fun.”

“This is very helpful, we are thankful to the Linden SAPS and CPF and every entity that came but mostly to the community members for availing themselves. This programme is very important and I am glad that people came to learn.”
