Ferndale high school honours their athletes

Parents came out in numbers to cheer and support the learners at the Ferndale High School Sports Awards.

Teachers, parents, and athletes from Ferndale High School came together to celebrate the school’s first sports awards since Covid-19.

Vice principal Musa Chauke said, “It has been the principal’s dream to have these sports awards since it helps with discipline. It was a joyous mood for the learners to receive awards in the presence of their parents. Parents honoured the invite and came in numbers to support the school and the kids.”

He added sport instilled discipline in their learners and kept them away from substance abuse. It also boosted learners’ confidence as some were not academically gifted.

“We have introduced more sporting codes as of this year and have already joined leagues for next year in soccer, netball, athletics, rugby, basketball, cricket and tennis. We are in the process of forming a hockey team.”

Learner, Jessica Segole, scooped the big award of the night for Sports Woman of the Year.
Coaches and teachers were also awarded for their involvement in school sports.
