Young basketball player shares his dreams

Randburg Elite Basket Academy player Salvador Alphani wishes to go overseas to pursue his dreams of playing in the NBA

The 19-year-old Salvador Alphani is a Randburg Elite Basketball Academy player and a songwriter.

Sharing his music and basketball journey, as well as his experience at the Randburg Basketball Festival he writes:

With music, I started writing songs in 2019. I was inspired by my father as he also writes songs. I write and sing hip-hop and I look up to Kanye West abroad. I love him because he pushed art and culture to their absolute limit. I’m working on new music that will be released soon.

In basketball, I’m currently playing in division three. But my dream is to go overseas to Canada to play college basketball. I hope to go pro and possible play in NBA.

Going abroad is the only way because in South Africa in my opinion, basketball is not working. We don’t have a lot of sponsorship, and it is not recognised by many. Even in the league people only come once to practise and treat it as a hobby and I want more than that. There is lot of potential for the sport to grow but we need more sponsorship, and good leadership that can work hard and promote the game.

My experience at the Randburg Basketball Festival was great, out of four games we won three and lost in the finals. We need more events like this and meeting new talented people out there was incredible.
