Comic Con Africa is a celebration of creativity

From premium collectables to cosplayers and content creators, gaming and major prizes, Comic Con had it all.

From the exquisite kimonos of Demon Slayer to the dark and gritty outfits of Batman, John Wick and the steampunk genre, to the colourful creations of Mario Bros, Squid Game, Alice in Wonderland and everything in between, cosplay and dress-up were the highlight for many at this year’s Comic-Con Africa.

Superheroes, villains, Pokémon, Jedi, and every character from fantasy, fiction, gaming or anime there is, seemed to turn up at Nascrec during the sold-out long weekend from September 22 to 25.

There was just about everything they could do and more: art and gaming stalls, arcade, brand exhibitions, product activations, major and spot prizes, premium collectables sold for as much as R100 000 (who wouldn’t want a 1/4 to life-sized Ironman, Batman or Be@rbrick Tiger in their living room), live game shows and discussions, and even a tabletop and board game area for people to unwind and perhaps earn a box of Catan if they earn enough points during their sessions.

Then there are talks by content creators, rounds by the more serious cosplayers, authors and all sorts of personalities and successful role players in the gaming and art industries. In short, the pop culture and gaming festival was a celebration and sharing of information, ideas and passion by like-minded people.

From every home-made outfit, to brand-backed professionally designed mug, wallet, costume or artwork, creativity was given free reign.
