Rainbow Line Dance held a special social dance
Rainbow Line Dance invited people with disabilities to a special event to socialise and enjoy music and dance.
Rainbow Line Dance provided a platform for people with disabilities and wheelchair users to participate in their social dance in Blairgowrie prior to their Egoli Place of Gold competition.
Rainbow Line Dance chair Leon Nel said, “People living with disability are confined to their homes as they cannot go out to a shop or movies on their own; they only get out when somebody takes them. Their parents have to work and are busy which means a day like this with their friends is an amazing opportunity to have fun and dance.”
He added that music is as therapeutic to them as to anyone else. “We have noticed that they are very uninhibited when at our social. They are able to just dance and enjoy the music.”

Joining the social event was Hodnett House in Linden, a daycare facility that caters for people living with intellectual disabilities from the ages of 18 years.
Manager Nomusa Shoba said they attended the event to socialise, experience the different environment and also meet different people.
“Just to come here is a great experience for them. We are so proud of seeing them interacting with other people and the way they are responding to music – screaming and dancing – shows they are happy and they are having fun.”
Line dancers welcomed the guests and assisted and danced with them on the dance floor.
“It was a huge success; we had a wonderful time and lots of fun dancing. I have also realised how fortunate we as line dancers are to share our love for music and dance with people less fortunate than us,” added Nel.
