Randburg U19 back to winning ways

Randburg U19 coach Tony Pearce said that they are going to work on keeping more of the ball and finishing for their next GDL match.

Randburg Football Club U19 secured maximum points after collecting only one point in the previous three games in the Gauteng Development League (GDL).

The 2–0 at home against Kagiso Porto Academy who finished the game a man short was all they need to remain in the top eight on the log table.

Each began more slowly as they assessed each other’s strengths and weaknesses. They were being cautious and trying not to make mistakes in the first half. The opening opportunity of the game was provided by the visitors, but Sibusiso Ngidi missed it with only the goalkeeper to beat.

The home team took advantage of the transition, as Sabatha Ndletyana evaded the offside trap to make it 1–0 before half-time.

Randburg made a few substitutions in the second half, hoping to score a second goal and put pressure on the visitors.

Kagiso was forced to defend deep in their half, and a handball inside the box allowed Randburg to extend their lead. Kyle Allen scored as a substitute to put Randburg up 2–0.

Things went from promising to worse as visitors’ defender Katlego Dakada was sent off for arguing with the official over the penalty decision.

Kagiso coach Tshepo Galo said that the red card affected them badly and changed their game plan completely. “I was about to introduce an offensive player but after a red card I had to juggle things out and try balance the team at the back.”

He added that they were not outplayed but the mistakes they made cost them the game.

“We will go back to the drawing board and work on keeping and rotating the ball and our confidence as well. We will also work on other elements of our game we could not execute like dead-ball situations we could’ve used.”

The home team created more and more opportunities but were not clinical upfront to get more goals. Coach Tony Pearce explained that they made it difficult for themselves and they disappointed in that they could not take their chances.
