Windsor’s young Sebopa likes to keep busy

Young Lethabo Sebopo from Windsor prefers to keep herself occupied to avoid being exposed to inappropriate things.

Lethabo Sebopa writes:

I am a Lesedi Aftercare and Bonfire Youth coordinator in Windsor. At the aftercare, I am responsible for the supervision and coordination of the programmes, as well as planning and organising all daily activities for the children.

I have always had a passion for working with kids. Growing up in Windsor and seeing them playing on the streets filled me with joy but had always led me to thoughts of how they can be exposed to harm and wrongful peers. I realised that we can bring that fun into a safe place, which is the Lesedi at the Windsor Recreational Centre, a place where they can be free, socialise, learn new skills, and engage with other kids.

This could benefit the community by making parents realise that their children are safer in a facility than out on the streets, where they could be harmed.

At Bonfire Youth, we focus more on the youth and their leadership development skills. I am also currently running an events and a décor company.

I choose to keep myself busy because being young, there are a lot of things to do and accomplish, and we have a lot of energy, ideas, and opportunities. So I prefer to take the chance now as a young person – being my own boss and taking every opportunity that comes along; to be a life-telling story to the youth.
