Meet the new SPCA Randburg general manager

Kaylie Henderson said that her intention is to remain in this role for as long as she's able to make a significant difference to the community and animals who require their assistance.

Kaylie Henderson, the Randburg SPCA’s new general manager, has had a love and passion for animals and animal rights since she was a teenager.

She joined the Randburg SPCA management committee in 2017 voluntarily. During her term on the committee, she began spending an increasing amount of time at the SPCA, while working with her fellow committee members to make improvements to provide better service to the community.

With her knowledge of the SPCA, related legislation, and managerial expertise, she was appointed as a new general manager.

Kaylie Henderson hopes to make a difference as the new SPCA Randburg general manager.

“Having been on the committee, as well as having managed numerous teams within my role heading up employee relations and labour law teams within the corporate space, I found myself drawn to the opportunity to join the SPCA and fulfil my life-long desire to work with animals and to make a difference.”

SPCAs play an important role in communities and extend beyond being a shelter and adoption facility.

“Education, particularly of children, on the rights of all living beings is essential, as is a focus on better legal protection and harsher penalties for animal cruelty perpetrators. Every day, we deal with negativity, but our animals love us unconditionally. Animals instil qualities such as responsibility, trust, compassion, respect, and patience, which must be reinforced in all aspects of our lives.”

Henderson’s objective is to focus on animal cruelty and the prosecution of perpetrators, as well as create stronger ties within the community with a focus on education and outreach.

When asked why she supports the SPCA and why it is important to her, she stated that animal rescue is a very challenging profession to work in. “Every day, we are subjected to horrors, but you have the opportunity to fight back, and to proactively initiate change.”

She added that to work within an industry where she is surrounded by individuals who share the same passion and fervour for animal welfare. is wonderful.
