New home, New leagues, New challenges for Randburg FC duel

Randburg FC U19 coach stated that they knew the youngsters have talent and quality, and that it was only a matter of time until someone came knocking to take them.

Randburg Football Club U19 will have to conclude the Gauteng Development League season without two of their key players, who have recently signed pro contracts with teams in the DStv Premiership and the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Randburg striker Owethu Khumalo was signed by Moroka Swallows who finished eighth on the DStv premiership last season. Swallows are looking to strengthen their squad and challenge for the tittle. Khumalo follows the likes of veteran Andile Jali and Dumisane Zuma who was recently signed by the new manager, Steve Kompela.

He explained that it feels surreal, it hasn’t sunken in, but he is very happy and it’s a proud moment for him and his family. It’s also a moment he has been praying for and working towards for a very long time.

“I am excited to be playing in the DStv Premiership next season. I understand it will be challenging but I’m working hard every day preparing. I am happy to experience a different level of competition and playing against the best of the best players. I look forward to just grow and make a name for myself and making people I love proud.”

He added that the move was tough but the support and love shown by his teammates and RAFC management made the transition easier.

Thando Mthethwa signs a pro contract with Hungry Lions for the coming season.

Randburg FC’s number one shot-stopper Thando Mthethwa landed himself a contract with the Motsepe Foundation Championship giants, Hungry Lions.

“I feel excited to open this new chapter in my life and football career. Hungry Lions offered me an exciting opportunity and I look forward to grow as a player. I am ready to face the challenges on a football and personal level,” said Mthethwa.

Randburg U19s, who are presently fifth in the GDL league, will have to adjust and look for a new goal poacher to replace Khumalo. This season, he appeared in 17 games and scored 13 goals.

Owethu Khumalo puts a pen on paper and is now a Moroka Swallows player.

Paul Habib, U19 coach said that this is their number on objectives to get the local boys to bigger and better things in football and life.

“Thando is a fantastic player, and despite being a keeper he was leader on the pitch, and we were informed that it was unlikely that he will finish the season with us. I also knew it was not long for Owethu to leave we knew what he had but we brought in younger players to try and replace them.”

He added that this will motivate the younger players to pick up their performance.
