Talented young footballer shares his journey

I believe that South Africa has a rich pool of talented players with a very strong culture of playing football

Colby Sinclair, Randburg FC shot-stopper writes:

I am a South African-born football player. I started my footballing career at the age of eight and by nine years old I found myself playing goalkeeper for my first club, Beaulieu Tigers. In my first season as a goalkeeper, I received the Club Goalkeeper of The Year award. From this point on, I successfully represented Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) at the district level for U10–U12 age groups as well as playing in the prestigious Donosti Cup in Spain.

At age 12, I was selected for the Schools Provincial A Team and was scouted for the Kaizer Chiefs U13s. After Covid-19 hit, I moved to Randburg FC and have had a successful career playing for the U17 and U19 teams. In 2022, I travelled with a select Randburg FC team to the Netherlands and took part in the Orange Veins tournament, playing top-level academies such as Paris Saint-Germain, Rotterdam Excelsior and AIK Football.

I was also called up to the South Africa National U17 team trials. Randburg FC entrusted me with the captaincy armband to represent the club and team at the Engen Knockout Challenge. I was honoured and feel proud to represent the club at such a prestigious tournament.

I have been playing football for the past nine years. My passion stems from my desire to be the best I can be, to continue to hone my skills and technique, and to achieve the highest possible level.

I have a natural tendency to protect. As a keeper, I am the last man of defence. The pressure is always on the goalkeeper to make the crucial decisions, saves, and lead the team from the back.

In the next five years, I would like to see myself playing in a professional team locally or internationally and representing my country on the international stage.
