Northriding entrepreneur organises blankets for women and children in need

Bags of blankets are donated to abused women and children at Bethany Home.

Northriding author and entrepreneur Khanyi Madlala recently spearheaded a blanket drive for a home for abused women and children in Doornfontein.

Madladla, R&B sensation Nannette Mbili and Kingdom Prosperity Church team members paid Bethany Home a visit bearing bags of warmth for the safe house.

Bethany Home is a shelter for women and children affected by abuse at the hands of loved ones and who ran away from the perpetrators. “It is such interventions that allow us to continue providing counselling and a new start in a safe environment for the women and children in our care,” says manager of the home Bridgette Edwards.

For Khanyi Madlala, selecting Bethany Home as a beneficiary was a no-brainer. “As a believer in acts of kindness and philanthropy, particularly towards causes aimed at the wellbeing of women and children, I was drawn to the rehabilitation model adopted by Bethany Home,” she said.

“It is sustainable, and I urge corporates and individual donors to consider their needs and operational costs, and partner with them.”

The blanket drive is an annual act of kindness that Madlala started in 2017 under the name Hope 100 Blanket Drive. It encourages communities to identify at least one hundred needy people to give blankets to before winter sets in.
