Velocity captain João looks forward to the excursion

Joao shares his views on the standard of South African football compared to Brazil and hopes to work hard to reach his dreams.

João Hosken Wernek, vice-captain of Velocity Football Academy U17 writes:

Hailing from Brazil, football has been an integral part of my life since the tender age of four. The prevalence of football among young boys in Brazil sparked my interest and passion for the sport, which has only grown stronger over the years. It has always been my dream to establish myself as a professional football player, and I envision myself playing for an American college within the next five years.

My main source of inspiration is Fagner Conserva Lemos, the talented Brazilian right back representing Corinthians. Observing his skills and achievements motivates me to continuously strive for excellence in my own performance. The football landscape in South Africa starkly differs from that of Brazil, particularly in terms of the game’s pace. Here, the ball moves at a notably faster tempo, presenting a unique challenge that contributes to my growth and development as a player.

I am eagerly anticipating our upcoming trip to Spain and Portugal, as such excursions provide invaluable opportunities for players to gain experience by competing against some of the world’s finest football academies. Last year’s trip was a remarkable experience that broadened my horizons and enhanced my understanding of the game. I am confident that this year’s journey will be equally enlightening and contribute significantly to my overall development.

I owe a great deal to Velocity Football Academy, as their guidance and support have been instrumental in my progress. When I initially joined the academy a year and a half ago, I felt disoriented and unable to perform at my best due to the prolonged two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic. However, the academy provided the necessary tools and training to help me elevate my skills significantly. Upon returning to Brazil during the summer, I underwent a remarkable transformation and realized the immense improvement in my football abilities.

I am deeply committed to my football aspirations, and I am grateful for the opportunities and guidance provided by Velocity. I will continue to work diligently towards my goal of becoming a professional football player, utilizing every experience and challenge as stepping stones toward success.
