Learners were given a taste and feel of what many black South Africans experienced on April 27, 1994 a famous day in South African history now known as Freedom Day
The school organised a voting station for the learners, exactly the same as during government elections.
Learners stand in long queues, excited to cast their votes on what event the school should organise for them at the end of the fourt term.
They had to vote for their favourite among four ‘candidates’: Market Day, Movie Day, Talent Show and the Carnival Show.
Principal Job Bonsu said they decided to commemorate the day as it was the first democratic elections.
“We wanted them to see how voting is done in the real world and in doing so, we were teaching them about their human rights and responsibilities.”
