Joburg Water aware of the sewerage spill in Randpark Ridge

Joburg water has confirmed that they are aware of the sewerage spill and are working on fixing the affected pipes.

Joburg Water has confirmed that they are aware of the massive spill of raw sewerage into the Klein Jukskei River at the bottom end of Cooper Street in Randpark Ridge.

Human waste was visible in the water and created an unmistakable stench in the air. The residents have tried to put sand in the way to try and stop the spillage from flowing into the river.

Joburg spokesperson Nolwazi Dhlamini said that there is a manhole and a sewer pipe on Cooper Street that have collapsed due to heavy floods. This has resulted in the spill.

“Johannesburg Water technicians have evaluated the issue and it requires a contractor to assist us because of the terrain and pipe work that is needed. We are in the process of hiring a contractor who will be able to determine the time for the completion of repairs.”

“Considering the dire impact on both the eco-system and the risk to residents’ health and while I understand the scope of the repair, I am disappointed with the projected timeline to resolve the issue,” she added.

She added that there is as yet no action taken by the entity all these weeks after the initial incident.
