Thabo the DJ wants to study music

Thabo the DJ said, "I want to have my own studio, produce my own music and offer local artists an opportunity to record their songs."

A local spinner from Zandspruit, known to his fans as Thabo the DJ is on a mission to release his debut single.

Thabo the DJ, whose real name is Thabo Steven Baloyi, was born in Mokomene Village, Matoks in Limpopo and relocated to the city of gold at the age of 16.

This is when his passion for music started.

“I fell in love with music in 2010 after matriculating. My mother was my influence because she loved music so much,” the 29-year-old told Randburg Sun.

“My mother listened to almost every genre.”

DJ Thabo mixes different music genres for the crowd.

Thabo the DJ is a second-year business administration student at Advanced Assessments and Training in Randburg and hopes to enroll in a music production course next year.

“I want to produce good music and I believe that in order to achieve it, a good education is needed,” he continued.

When asked which famous DJs he has shared a stage with he said, “My biggest experience was when I was booked with Mobi Dixon at Muldersdrift in 2016. It was a big move for me because I was so happy to talk with him.”

The popular artist has performed in Jerusalem, one of the biggest establishments in Cosmo City and has worked alongside big names such as 2wo Bunnies.

Throughout his journey as a musician, he has met with great artists such as Black Coffee, DJ Shimza, Ami Faku and Kings of the Weekend (SPHEctacular and DJ Naves) amongst others.

“Being a resident DJ at Cosmo FM’s breakfast show every Friday is one of the biggest highlights of my career and I aspire to gain other slots at big radio stations,” he said.

His creative approach when playing the decks is what makes him stand out from other DJs in the neighborhood and he excels at introducing new music to the crowd.

Thabo the DJ’s followers and fans can expect to listen to his debut new single in June.
