My name is Tanaka Paradza also known as TN-KO. I am a dancer.

I started dancing when I was in Grade 8. I’ve always loved it and now that I’m in Grade 12 it’s starting to get more serious.

My dance journey is complicated. I was usually in between two or three studios each year. I went from starting at Mario studio to dancing at the Dance Sports Schools League (DSSL). It’s basically a story about how I went from being a crew dancer, where there are lots of people, to more of a solo dancer where I focus on myself and my moves.

The experience so far has been the best thing. Dance has uplifted me, changed my life and been the one thing that’s anchored me from Covid to now. It’s just been a constant and continues to push me to get where I wanted to be. It has allowed me to figure out who am I as a person.

I’m now working on crews, competitions and battles. I am focusing on growing myself in the industry.

I recently did trials for a spot in the team to represent Gauteng in an inter- provincial dance tournament. I did my best and hopefully, I’ll make it.

To all the dancers that are trying; you have to understand that it is a process, try to figure out what you can do, how your body can move and enjoy the process of getting better. It’s a continuous effort. As long as you keep pushing yourself and put in more work there is no limit to how far you can go.
