Blairgowrie Primary School Grade 4 learners created a museum that displayed items that were collected as part of a history project.
The learners were asked to collect things that were used in the past as part of their history project and their parents were then invited to view them.
From old music records, music players, old cellular phones, typing machines and toasters to a 100-year-old blow torch, the children were creative in what items they featured.
History teacher at Blairgowrie Primary School, Veronica Luthuli said that this project happens every year in the first term.
“We give them time to go and collect these old things and explain to us how they were used. In history we learn about everything because the subject is about the past, present and the future.”
She added that they show the learners how things were in the past. “It’s important for learners to know where we come from and what people used back then. It helps them appreciate what they have now and understand that it has been around for a long time. Everything starts somewhere and develops into what we have today.”
