Petition for speed bump on Tin Road receives more than 300 signatures

A total 319 residents sign petition for a speed bump on road motorists use as a shortcut through Bromhof to reach main roads.

After a child was knocked down in 2020, a recent petition to have a speed bump installed on Tin Road in Bromhof has garnered more than 300 signatures.

Although nestled in the suburb, Tin Road is a busy one which motorists use as a shortcut to connect to main roads such as CR Swart Drive, Hans Schoeman Street, and President Fouché Drive.

“We have 319 signatures which I will take to Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau to present to the municipality,” said resident Wendy Thomé as she met Randburg Sun on site.

“Drivers speed on the road and it is always busy, making it nearly impossible to cross. Community members want to see something change.”

Fellow resident Ilda Miltiadou said she tried to walk her dogs on the street but she did not feel safe.

“It’s so risky and I have to pull the dogs close. There is no real pavement and the cars come screaming past. Some nights you can hear them racing.”

Lisa Roberts said, “People don’t even stop properly when they reach the stop streets down the road. My complex denied us getting a cat because this road is so dangerous, so I moved to a complex further away where I can have cats.”

Joshua Donald (17) said he used to walk to school but it was not safe to do so anymore.

He cited crime and speeding motorists as the reasons for this and signed the petition because he wanted these to change.

Bittkau said he had not received the petition yet but would gladly act upon it when he did, as residents have complained to him before about the need for a speed bump.
