Bromhof teenager says he does not feel safe walking the streets

The teenager believes young people adopt the qualities of their parents and so, many of them would not change things even if they were in power now.

Bromhof resident, Joshua Donald (17) writes:

I used to walk to school every day but I no longer feel safe doing that.

There is just too much crime now and I keep hearing of people being robbed.

The only time I can walk is at 05:00 when there is no one outside, and that is when I do sometimes go out.

I used to walk my dog to the veld nearby but homeless people have taken over and there has been more robberies.

So it is not safe.

At the moment there is little for young people to be optimistic about. It is all doom and gloom, really.

Load-shedding is such a problem I cannot do my studies online so I end up just sleeping during that time.

There is just this lack of respect for laws.

Some young people do want to change things.

Because I study history at school, and we see how bad things were and how societies were able to fix their problems, we do have hope to change things.

But the current people in power make it so difficult to change anything.

And in the end most of us adopt the qualities of our parents so many young people would not change things even if they were in power now.
