Staff and families paint planters in Randburg CBD

Operation smile was a colourful success in Randburg CBD.

A local business took it upon itself to clean up and paint some plant containers in their area.

Ursula Afonso of Netwater Properties said she noticed the Randburg CBD and its surrounds were looking neglected and had heard Ward 102 councillor David Potter had started facilitating pavement clean-ups through the Augmented Field Services Team.

Mandy Makgoarela and Martha Tsela like the newly-painted planters.

“So we decided to add some value by painting some really sad-looking planters as well,” she said of the containers on Bram Fischer Drive.

“Although I do not live in Randburg, I see this as a wonderful opportunity to add some fun colours and to brighten up the Randburg commuters’ route. Even the wonderful Randburg suppliers, Warrior Paints, Builders Supplies Centre and Swift Signs and Media were happy to donate the paint and materials needed to complete this fun and uplifting project.”

Afonso thanked the staff and their families, saying they put together a small but awesome work crew for ‘operation smile’, with volunteers of adults and children, the youngest of whom was only two years old.

The planters were looking poorly before they were cleaned and painted.

“Hanneke van Linge of Nosh Food Rescue NPC supplied some spekbooms and compost to plant in the planters and the children loved being part of the project.”

Afonso challenged all of Randburg’s businesses and residents to ‘adopt a few pots’ along the same route to brighten up the commute many take on the roads.

The newly-painted planters on Bram Fischer Drive look good.

Potter commented, “The planter boxes along Bram Fischer Drive are in much need of painting and planting. Only a few of the many were done by the team of volunteers from Netwater properties. Many more need attention and I encourage the community nearby to get involved in cleaning them, painting them and planting in them for a better entrance to the Randburg CBD.”
