Randburg Sun journalists hit the streets to ask readers if they think that provincial government can and will deliver on the plans laid out in the State of the Province address. Here’s what they had to say…

THOLINHLANHLA MNGOMEZULU: I’ve lost all faith in the government. They will not deliver on anything and nothing is going to change, and it is pity that we will not do anything about it. As people, we will just normalise it like we always do. I’ve lost hope.
TSHEPO GAWE: There have been changes in parts of the country. Maybe not in poverty but we have seen many clinics and houses built, and the government has helped the poor with grants in recent years. I believe they can deliver on their promises. The problem is that opposition parties cannot accept the ANC’s leadership but if they did they would work better together to fight poverty and other issues.
WARD 134 COUNCILLOR, DEVON STEENKAMP: I have three provincial roads in my ward – Malibongwe and Beyers Naudé drives and Northumberland Avenue. I have been asking the provincial government for help with their storm water drainage issues for years and received no help. So when they announce promises I always take it with a pinch of salt. Maybe something will happen just before elections.
ALUN MMOTONG: Yes. I think Panyaza Lesufi knows his way around politics he has been a minister before so he deserves his fair chance and I believe he will deliver on the plans. Also, he looks like he knows what he is doing I have faith in him.
REBONTSI LIRATSAGAE: No. Our government doesn’t keep its promises at all. I will not even waste my time to expect any change now because they make big promises but never deliver so what would change now?
