Northwold resident encourages youth to spend less time on the phone

Youngsters lose focus on the world around them and do not have strong relationships because of the time they spend on phones.

Jeanelize van Wyk of Northwold comments:

For me one of the greatest challenges youths are facing is screen time, and especially becoming addicted to cellphones.

You see this more in the younger guys.

There are two children in my extended family who are constantly on their phones.

They lose focus on the world and are less aware of what is happening around them.

It worries me that they do not listen, and they are missing out.

Some of our older family members could pass away and the children would not have many memories of them, as bad as that sounds.

They do not know much about each other. Their relationships with people are shallow.

I would encourage youngsters to go outside more and have their own experiences away from devices.

Spend time with families and friends.

Make lasting memories that you will cherish.
