Sandton Police Station alerts public on current crime trends

Sergeant Trevor Rama of the Sandton Police Station states that crime trends ranging from theft of motor vehicles and common crimes were the main issues affecting Sector 1.

During the month of January, Sandton police officers were able to identify and keep a record of certain criminal activities that were reported by residents and victims.

According to reports conducted by Sergeant Trevor Rama of the Sandton Police Station, Sector 1 which includes Rivonia, Gallo Manor and Woodmead, has seen an increase in individuals being affected by the theft of motor vehicles and carjacking. With the peak times for the commission of these crimes occurring from 08:00 to 11:59 and 16:00 to 19:59 on Fridays.

With common robberies, it was stated that criminals are currently targeting cell phones by snatching the victim’s device and running into a getaway car. Areas that have been known to be the hotspots of this crime trend were Sunninghill and Edenburg between the hours of 08:00 to 11:59 on Mondays.

Theft out of motor vehicles is considered to be at an all-time high in the Sunninghill and Woodmead areas, especially on Tuesdays and Fridays.

“In most cases of theft of motor vehicles, victims park their motor vehicles at places of interest such as shopping centres and upon their return, they soon realise that their vehicle has been taken,” said Rama.

Members of the Sandton Police Station continue to urge residents to stay alert for any suspicious behaviours and to report criminal activities to local authorities on 011 722 4200.
