Linden Bowling Club hosts Linden Ladies Day event
Ione Ritchie said that the Ladies Day commenced in 1998 by lady president Francis Du Plessis and 2023 event was a massive success
It was a day of fun, laughter and socialising as Linden Bowling Club hosted yet another successful Linden Ladies Day on February 2.
The Ladies Day takes place on the first Thursday of February every year.
The club opened its doors to 24 teams and 96 players.
The organiser Ione Ritchie said they invited bowlers from as many clubs as they could. “A lot of these ladies are from Johannesburg Bowls Association (JBA) and we also include the service people who like to join us.”
She added that it was just a fun day. “It’s not a serious bowling [event] but there are a couple of prizes for the first five teams. That’s what it’s all about and in this way, all the ladies from different clubs get to know each other.”
Former organiser Doreen Walker said, “This competition started many years ago and the ladies are enjoying it. Often we have a waiting list of people who wants to join so we have to make sure that we have enough green spaces for all the ladies who do want to play.
“It’s really nice, I’ve been away for three years. I’ve just come back and seeing these ladies I played with and against is nice and you make new friends.”
The bowlers donated to two charities, Casa Do Sol and Pad Princess.
Bowler Louise Robb said this day was important to her because she always supported charity. “This charity for sanitary towels for ladies who are missing school or work because they do not have pads is to me very important and it’s a wonderful gesture.
“We have a lot of fun… The food and the company are always nice, it’s lovely to see women from different clubs. It’s a very pleasant day,” Robb told Randburg Sun.
