Blandford Road and Jacaranda Avenue to only be repaired in March

Roads agency confirms roads will be repaired in March, after ward councillor says homeless people are repairing potholes better than them.

The repairs to Blandford Road and Jacaranda Avenue are only scheduled for March, so that the city can focus on its flooding recovery plan.

So says Joburg Roads Agency (JRA) spokesperson, Kelebogile Mafa in response to questions from the Randburg Sun.

Ward 101 councillor, Ralf Bittkau mentioned the deterioration of the roads in Olivedale and North Riding as a result of potholes, as ongoing issues when he met the newspaper early in January.

“Homeless people are currently doing a better job than JRA filling up potholes at the moment,” Bittkau said at the time.

“I keep escalating new potholes and every time JRA just tells me they are added to the list, but they never say when these will be dealt with or how long the list is.”

Since then, Mafa said the entity has inspected the roads and identified multiple potholes.

“As the JRA is currently prioritising its flooding recovery plan to deal with infrastructure severely impacted by the flooding late last year as well as the maintenance of main arterial routes which are being prioritised, repairs to Blandford Road and Jacaranda Avenue have been scheduled for March (late this quarter),” she explained.

“In the meantime, the JRA has made the affected areas safe for travel and will continue to monitor the sites until repairs are undertaken.”
