Local cricket player and coach does not want to limit himself

While seeking a job at a school, the Presidents A League player does not want to only teach. He wants to take their sport forward.

Cameron Gerritz loves cricket, and he loves the Randburg Cricket Club.

The 24-year-old Lanseria resident makes the trip to the club in Praegville twice a week, sometimes more often, to meet up with friends, have practices, and play in matches in the Presidents A League.

“I am busy studying education and I want to work at a school going forward,” he told Randburg Sun while waiting for his turn to bat in a match against Lenasia Cricket Club.

“I currently coach youngsters and so I want to get a job at a school not just on the teaching side, but on the sports side too. I don’t want to limit myself.”

Gerritz started playing at Randburg Cricket Club in 2014 and stayed because of the family aspect of it, something he calls ‘togetherness’.

“This is a community club, and you can see that while other cricket clubs have had challenges keeping members in recent years, Randburg hasn’t really. We have had a few dips, but we always bounced back, unlike some other clubs.”

Again, Gerritz attributed the welcoming aspect of its members to the club’s ability to retain, and gain new, members.
