Dominion City Church brings smiles to little ones on Children’s Day

Dominion City Church hosts a Children's Day event and makes donations to an orphanage.

Little ones from the church’s Sunday school and Windsor Glen showed up in their numbers to enjoy the special day.

Head of the children’s department at Dominion City Church Doris Likonde said, “We try to make this day special for all the children. We have our Sunday school children and we [welcome] neighbours and any other children who want to come. It’s good to see this place full.”

Likonde added that this had become a tradition and culture for the church as they hosted this event annually.

A jumping castle and hula hoops were among the fun activities that the children enjoyed.

“We teach the children about God, then we bring out fun activities we plan for the day. We allow them to go out to play games, we give them food, gifts and we pack little parcels for them to take home.”

National Children’s Day is celebrated on the first Saturday of November. The aim is to highlight the progress being made towards the realisation and promotion of children’s rights.

Children’s teacher at Dominion City Church Andra Mthembu said, “This day is important for children to make them feel special and give them what they normally enjoy and we teach them about children’s rights and also about the church and the Lord.

“We remind children that they are an important part of the community because they are small beings who are usually ignored.”

Dominion City Church members later visited Lighthouse Baby Shelter to donate groceries.

Likonde said, “We normally choose an orphanage and invite their kids to the event. Unfortunately, Lighthouse Baby Shelter couldn’t make it to the event so we visited them to donate groceries and saw the children.”
