Randpark Ridge resident discusses how information technology improves our lives

Wellington Sibande is a senior IT Leader and acting chief information officer in telecommunications and is passionate about technology.

Randpark Ridge resident, Wellington Sibande writes:

Technology opens up new types of opportunities, future job categories, and business models.

Technology saves costs, generates money and makes things easier for us.

Young people must take charge and take action. I encourage all young people to read The Man In the Arena by Theodore Roosevelt (1910).

I love working as a senior IT leader and chief information officer in my telecommunications company.

Information technology is fascinating.

Everything is enabled by technology. Even during the Covid-19 lockdown we did everything from home.

Technology helps people to live and work. We digitise everything. It cuts the distance and helps us interact with people around the world.

I work with and interact with people all over, and our networks stretch the globe.

In the 90s the internet came and changed everything. Now we have the metaverse, which is basically triple 4D or 5D.

It can take you to Brazil and you will experience everything there from the comfort of your own home.

So many people are working for overseas companies and they feel like they are really there.

My passion extends to running. I am an avid runner with four times Comrades Marathons and five times Two Oceans Ultras. I’m passionate about empowering young people to realise their individual and collective power to change their lives and the world at large.
