Joburg Ombudsman roadshow in Bryanston educates residents

In an effort to further educate residents about the role of the Johannesburg Ombudsman, representatives recently engaged with residents in Bryanston about their unresolved queries and/or complaints about the city.

In an effort to educate more residents about the role of the Johannesburg Ombudsman, representatives recently held a two-day roadshow in Bryanston.

The team, alongside members of the Ward 104 committee, engaged with residents at Bryan Park Shopping Centre on October 6 and 7.

The Office of the Johannesburg Ombudsman is an independent and impartial facilitator that ensures that all complaints of alleged maladministration and human rights violations lodged against the City of Johannesburg are resolved through a fair investigative process.

On the day, residents were able to take complaints and/or unresolved queries that they have with the City of Johannesburg to the Ombudsman. Residents were then guided on how they can lay a complaint.

According to Noluthando Zwane, coordinator for the Ombudsman’s office, over the two-day period residents raised queries about an array of issues such as billing irregularities and property evaluations.

“We were able to assist these residents by explaining how they can lodge a complaint with the Ombudsman. Once the complaint is submitted, we are then able to conduct an independent investigation.”

Region B ambassador for the Ombudsman’s office Basetsana Makgamatho said that the main reason for these roadshows it to not only educate residents, but emphasise that there is an independent body that is able to assist them beyond the municipality.

“Queries can also be directed to the Ombudsman if the dispute or complaint remains unresolved after the resident has exhausted all other official channels.”

To lodge a complaint with the Johannesburg Ombudsman, residents can visit www.joburgombudsman.org.za to download a complaint form. The form must be completed and sent to complaints@joburgombudsman.org.za

Pensioners are encouraged to contact the office of the ombudsman and a team will be in contact to liaise for a home visit.
