Randburg Harriers gives R10 000 to charities

The running club's relationship with Ann Harding Cheshire Home goes back 10 years, while the goals of Wandsworth School have captured the hearts of runners.

Randburg Harriers Running Club handed over R5 000 cheques to two charities in the area.

Ann Harding Cheshire Home is a residential care facility in Northwold that caters to 40 adults who have a physical disability while Wandsworth School in Boskruin caters to learners with special needs.

The home’s fundraising manager Jackie Kyle thanked the club for the donation saying it would go towards their running costs.

She added accommodation fees did not cover everything the facility provided to residents so they had a charity shop, online store, music nights and monthly pop-up markets.

The school’s principal Nicci van Pletzen and operations manager Natalie Walker said there was always a need for new toys, curriculum resources and funding for maintenance.

“We are trying to redo our play area so this will probably go into that,” Walker said.

“We help kids from age three and our oldest is 20. We still charge a small fee but it is minimal. We try to keep the fees low.”

Harriers club captain John Neale said the funds had been raised through various initiatives over the year but the biggest ones were Valentine’s Race and the Vitality Run Series.

Race organiser Connie Mkhize said the relationship Harriers had with the home has gone from strength to strength over the past 10 years, while the goals of the school to create possibilities and nurture independence had captured the hearts of people at Harriers.
