Linden police and JMPD sweep drug users off the streets

A joint operation ended in 20 arrests for various crimes.

A joint disruptive operation led by Linden police and JMPD focusing on the Linden policing precinct ended successfully with the arrest of 20 suspects for various serious crimes on October 8.

According to Linden Police Station communication officer Sergeant Takalani Sibiya, their first successful arrests were of two men dealing in liquor without a licence. The liquor total for suspect one was 51 630ml, and 2 950ml for suspect two.

Sibiya said abandoned items were found and taken to the Linden Police Station: 1 x 500ml of liquor; 2 x crates containing 23 empty beer bottles; 1 x bass amplifier; 1 x black speaker; 1 x echo speaker; 5 x white plastic chairs; 4 x small plastic chairs; 2 x black chairs and
1 x grey step chairs.

“While on the operation, a female was obstructing the police officers from doing their job. She was arrested for obstruction of justice and detained at the Linden Police Station. With that, the police appeal to the public to not disrupt the police while they are on duty as it is a serious offence and you will be arrested and charged.”

Sibiya said their next arrest was of a female who saw the police van and suspiciously walked away. “The officers stopped her, introduced themselves, and asked if she was fine as her leg was shaking. She permitted them to search her, and they found 38 Mandrax tablets. She was arrested and detained at Linden Police Station.”

Further through the operation, the police received a tip-off about a male who was suspected to be selling drugs. The police made use of this information and proceeded to the stated address. The male was found, and after permitting the police to search, him they found 113 Mandrax tablets, 45 Ziploc bags of crystal meth, one package of crystal meth: 58.1g valued at R3 715.20, and one red container with 50 glass lollies.

Sibiya said just before the police concluded their duties, they arrested 15 suspects for drunk driving. “All arrested suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in due course.”
