COJ departments and entities tackle recurring service delivery issues

After an onsite visit of the Kya Sands Informal Settlement under Ward 134 on October 5, the City of Johannesburg’s departments and entities revealed their service delivery operation plans to assist the prevailing service delivery and law enforcement issues that the community was challenged by.

• According to the Regional Accelerated Service Delivery Operations Plan from urban inspector Alice Madida set for October 6 and 7, Pikitup would focus on the illegal dumping of refuse and litter picking on Hilston Road, Spebona Road, Orleans Road, and the Msawawa Informal Settlement.

• Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) would focus on the faded road markings (stop sign markings and centre markings), repair potholes and patches, and damaged road signs on Hilston Road, Spebona Road and Homestead, and Orleans Road.
• Johannesburg Water would focus on the leaking communal taps and the replacement of taps in the Msawawa Informal Settlement.
• City Power would focus on the streetlights being on during the day, high mast poles not working on main arterials, fallen/skewed high mast poles, open electrical boxes/chambers, illegal connections/exposed wires, and fallen electrical poles on Spebona Road, Clairvaux Road, Homestead, Orleans Road, Hilston Road, and the Msawawa Informal Settlement.

• Environmental Health would inspect the spaza shops/food premises and focus on pest control in the Msawawa Informal Settlement.
• The JMPD would focus on safety visibility, illegal signage, illegal structures and displaced people, street traders and awareness and education on street trading by-laws in the Msawawa Informal Settlement, on Spebona Road, and Bernie Street.

• Economic Development would provide information to the community regarding economic development services that are rendered in Region C on Bernie Street and Hilston Road.
• Social Development would focus on ESP (Expanded Social Package) education and awareness, social relief, and displaced people in the Msawawa Informal Settlement.
• Building Control would focus on the removal of building rubble on Orleans Road.
