Learners at IR Griffith show off their unique cultures in celebration of Heritage Day

Regardless of where they are from, learners stand together this Heritage Day.

On September 23 learners from all grades at IR Griffith Primary School recognised and celebrated their cultural background as they dressed up in their cultural attire.

South Africans celebrate Heritage Day on September 24 and remember the diverse cultural heritage that makes up the beautiful nation of South Africa.

The Grade 2 boy learners show off their cultural heritage attires.

Grade 4 English teacher Kerry Horwood said, “In the same way, as South Africa is referred to as the Rainbow Nation, the learners and teachers at IR Griffith Primary School proudly consider ourselves to be a Rainbow School. We are privileged to have learners with rich and varied cultures, beliefs and traditions and on Heritage Day, everyone is encouraged to wear their clothes to show this off. “

The Grade 3 learners have a wonderful day showing off their heritage wear.

Horwood said each year they celebrated Heritage Day in style and there was much excitement as the school burst into colourful splendour.

The Grade 7 learners honour their cultural heritage by reminiscing on their cultural roots.

“To the learners, this day represents the opportunity to display their family history and heritage, with pride.”

Horwood said it reminded them all, that despite their differences, they were all part of South Africa’s rainbow people.
