Grade 2 learners from IR Griffith Primary School write short Afrikaans tales

The world’s future authors and illustrators show off their Afrikaans writing skills.

The Grade 2 learners of IR Griffith Primary School spent their week practising their creative writing skills in South Africa’s third most spoken language, Afrikaans.

The learners were instructed to write a short story in Afrikaans based on a picture that they had drawn.

The Grade 2 learners enjoy this Afrikaans writing activity.

Tasnim Muradmia, foundation phase deputy principal said, “The learners were very enthusiastic and creative in drawing their pictures and they really enjoyed writing and then reading their stories to the rest of the class. This helped to build confidence in using the language as Afrikaans is not even a second language that learners speak at home.”

The Grade 2s show off their creative writing skills in Afrikaans.

Muradmia said the drawings varied in colour and character but all the learners managed to create a picture that described a sunny day with children playing with a ball.

The Grade 2 learners creatively write Afrikaans short stories.

“The simplicity of the drawings and drawing techniques used is also very age appropriate and developmentally promising. The Grade 2s are learning in leaps and bounds and making amazing academic progress.”

She said the learners enjoyed these types of activities which boosted their morale.

“It is wonderful to see that Covid-19 did not damage their thirst for knowledge.”
