Over 350 Mintek employees took to the streets of Malanshof in colourful T-shirts for this wellness initiative held by South Africa’s national mineral research company.

This initiative was held to ensure that all employees remained healthy due to the stressful environment that they worked in, as well as to unite the employees to an outdoorsy event after the two years that the pandemic had taken away from them being outside, which would help them work towards bettering their well-being.

Mintek’s biometallurgy executive manager Mariekie Gericke excitedly expressed that she hoped everyone would enjoy themselves and hoped everyone would make it to the finish line.

The walk began on Rowland Johnson Street and continued through Silver Pine Avenue and Republic Road to the Damelin Campus. Participants of the 10km walk took off 30 minutes ahead of the 5km walk participants.

JMPD was on-site to assist with controlling traffic during the walk as well as closing certain roads which they reopened after the walk.

Mintek had organised other fun boot camp activities on their grounds for those who had not registered for the walk. These activities included leopard crawling, broad jumps over a tire, and shooting a ball into a basket. Employees were grouped into different categories – wearing T-shirts of their team’s colour. The catch to crossing the finish line was that there had to be five or more members of your team in order to complete the race.

The Gym Company also gave everyone a well-guided Pilates session, to help balance the muscles of their bodies after all the active and energetic activities.
