Randpark Ridge resident, Ryleigh Sloan, sees more success as an author of romance

Local female authors’ years of hard work and dedication will be compensated as she makes an appearance for her first signing in Chicago.

Whether her books are about suspenseful romance or contemporary romance, Ryleigh Sloan is a hard-working author with a supposed master’s degree in being an indecisive control freak.

Sloan’s love and dedication to writing have seen her publish six books on Audiobook and Kindle and in paperback. Her accomplishments gained her an invite to the Allure Book Convention in Chicago in September.

Sloan was completely blown away when the convention organiser contacted her regarding the invite.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the people who have read my books and giving them a massive hug of gratitude.”
Sloan was born in Scotland and immigrated to South Africa with her parents when she was four years old. She had worked in aviation but later realised her true passion was writing so she pursued a career as a full-time writer.

She added that she owed her writing career to her friend, Victoria King. “I am truly grateful she gave me the shove I needed.”

Sloan shared that her writing was inspired by music, movies, and people-watching. “I’m a huge people watcher. But mostly music. Music is a huge part of my writing process.

“The main themes are celebrity romance, rock star romance and military romantic suspense. I love to write about people overcoming challenges to find true love.”

She said one of the challenges she faced was writer’s block which could be tough to get through. “Often, when I feel blocked, I’ll move on to another story and come back when I’m inspired again. The other challenge I face is imposter syndrome.”
She added that at times she’d read a book and compare herself to her favourite author. “All I really want is for people to read my books and connect to the story.”

Sloan currently self-publishes her books on eBooks and in paperback through KDP Select – Amazon. Her audiobooks are published through Pleiades Web Press.

Sloan advised future writers to ‘go for it, they’ve got nothing to lose’.
“I believe the reader can feel what type of energy we put into our stories, so the more fun you have with writing, the more they will enjoy it.”
