On August 26 the Grade 7 learners of Bordeaux Primary School held a fun and exciting market day.
Following the past two dreadful years of the pandemic, the Grade 7 learners made sure to bring back the light post darkness, ensuring that everyone enjoyed the unmasked freedom that they have.
Grade 7 economic management science teacher Manana Ngcobo said the purpose of the market was to combat the youth issue of unemployment as it was high in this country.
“We are trying to teach learners skills so they can start their businesses instead of waiting for someone to come and employ them.
“This year, we have allowed them to showcase whatever they have. We started planning a month ago, they had to prepare their budgets, source their capital, and items that they would sell as well as advertise. It was hard work and I am happy.”
She hoped that the learners would make a big profit so that they could share it among themselves and be role models to the learners in lower grades and feel motivated to work hard to get to Grade 7.
Grade 7 learner Lesedi Lebelo said,” I am enjoying the market day so much and we are making a big profit and there are a lot of children coming to support us.”
Fellow learner Mikayla Moodley said the market day was going very well.
Blessing Aniegbu shared she was glad to be a part of the market that helped build their independence as children.
“This is a big experience and going into it I thought it was going to be easy but it’s actually harder than I thought.”
She added that they had a few difficulties but overall, the market was going well.
