Honeydew SAPS empowers Grade 12 learners for their prelim exams

Grade 12 learners in Cosmo City learn about the importance of education.

Prior to beginning their yearly preliminary exams, matriculants in Cosmo City schools were urged to give their all in their education.

Honeydew Police Station, along with The South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), the Department of Water and Sanitation, and the CPF youth desk, inspired learners from Blue Eagle and Far North high schools on August 18 to empower the learners and on their academic endeavours.

Station spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said, “As social crime and communication desk in the community, we [Honeydew SAPS] saw it fit to encourage these learners how important their education is. We want to encourage the children to study hard so that they can do well during their exams. We want to try our utmost best to see how best we can be of assistance to the matriculants.”

He added that they want to help the learners with bursaries in the future from different departments within the education system.

As the matriculants are in the last year of their high school journey, Sanca urges learners to abstain from using substances. Sanca community development worker Khensani Mashele said, “We know there are some learners already smoking although we want to be informative about the dangers of engaging in substances and how they can affect them from achieving their goals.

“The better way of dealing with substances is to abstain and prevent the consequences of being an addict while you still can.”

She concluded, “Sanca advises you to do research before using any substances and to understand your circle of friends and people, as well as what you are getting yourself into.”
