One truck belonged to Caxton Local Media, and seven of the injured were inside when the accident occurred.

All have since been discharged from Flora Clinic, save one man, who is still undergoing checks but is in a stable condition.

“I’ve responded to a lot of incidents but I am impressed with how well they [Metro police and emergency services] handled everything quickly,” said the company’s local operations manager, Sipho Shongwe.

“The guys told me they arrived quickly to the scene and helped transport the guys to hospital, and then organise the cleaning [with the help of private emergency services companies and Honeydew Community Policing Forum]. I am glad they responded so quickly, as nothing is as important as a person’s life.”

Many newspapers from the Caxton truck and packets of wood from the other truck had to be cleared from the scene along with debris from all three vehicles.
