Property raids see compliance orders issued in Ferndale

Members from different city departments join ward councillor in Ferndale property raids.

Ward 104 councillor Emi Koekemoer is satisfied with the results of recent property raids in her areas.

One recent raid saw Joburg EMS, Citizen Relationship and Urban Management, JMPD, SAPS, and City Power attend to an illegal scrap yard on Bond Street and various hijacked buildings in Ferndale.

“The purpose of the problem property raid was to conduct oversight to properties that have been flagged by residents to be ‘problem properties’,” Koekemoer said.

“These include repeat offenders for noise complaints, highjacked buildings, people running businesses and subletting on residential 1 zoning, and more. [At the Ferndale raid] fines were issued for illegal service connections and illegal connections were disconnected.”

Koekemoer said compliance orders were issued where zoning and by-law contraventions were found, and these orders will be followed up within the timeframes specified on the orders.
