Elderly women from Jukskei Park knit blankets for charity

Residents from The Golden Years aim to help keep those in need warm this winter.

A group of elderly women from Jukskei Park put their knitting skills to good use by making several blankets for charity.

The women from The Golden Years – a retirement village with a focus on specialised frail care – knit regularly for those in need.

The fruits of their latest project will go to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, Elephant Sanctuary and Beanies for Beings.

Some squares still need to be put together but there will be 10 blankets in the first batch to go to these charities.

“We are hoping to expand this project and the others to include beanies for infants and children, including premies in incubators,” said craft coordinator at the home, Marilyn James.

“Our continued efforts will be to donate at least one or two blankets annually to the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Drive and the Elephant Sanctuary.”
