A run to fight fatherlessness and promote mentorship of boys

SylvesterMashilo Foundation is eager to host the next Fatherhood Run/Walk to raise funds and awareness.

The next Fatherhood Run/Walk will be making its way through Randburg on July 16.

This will be the third event since July last year and is organised by the SylvesterMashilo Foundation in partnership with the City of Johannesburg’s Sports and Recreation Department, to raise awareness of the social challenge that is fatherlessness and funds for a boys mentorship programme.

The organisation’s founder, Sylvester Mashilo, ran 670km in 27 days exactly a year ago for this cause. “The run/walk is for everyone,” said Mashilo.
He said will be between 2km and 67km.

“Our slogan for the campaign is Ba Bize Bonke, which means ‘bring them all’. Anyone who can’t pay we exempt. Children under 16 are free. Proceeds go towards our boys’ mentorship and positive manhood programmes.”

The event starts at Ruimsig Stadium but goes through various parts of Randburg before winding back to the stadium.

“In order to address the endemic fatherlessness, activism efforts should focus on promoting fatherhood and deepening dialogue on the social challenge of fatherlessness,” Mashilo added.

“Founded in 2020, the organisation aims to create a safer and better world for our children by supporting communities through programmes that build young boys, intentional parenting interventions and holding men accountable to display compassionate manhood.”
