Rape accused to appear in court

The victim claims to have been raped right after waking up, the morning after a friend and the accused stayed the night.

A 26-year-old man is expected to appear briefly before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court to face charges of rape.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said it was reported that the victim was contacted by a friend who said the friend and the accused were to visit her in Ferndale on the evening of July 2.

“Upon their arrival they enjoyed [a] few drinks and went to sleep,” Maja said.

“In the morning when she woke up, she was surprised by the suspect who was rubbing his private parts on her body. Allegedly the suspect had sex with her without her consent.”
