The Methodist Home – Garden Village held a one-of-a-kind, fun-filled fashion show for the senior citizens on July 1.
The staff of the home put together this little heartfelt show to reinvigorate the elderly’s inner charm, as the Covid-19 pandemic had taken away so much from them.
The delightful get-together was initially coordinated by Jeanette Chepape and turned into a spectacular event led by Hazel Chitengu. Before the event could commence, Phillip Botha, a resident from one of the units at Garden Village, opened up the ceremony with a prayer.
The stylish and quite fashionable contenders included Joan Bailey, Janice Sherman, Jackie Ford, Rosemary Egba, Peter Scott, Rebecca Langa, Anne Dube, Elaine Burnham, Margret Stiff and Des Henning.
The judging panel consisted of compliance officer Anna Marie, retired school principal Steve Bryan, and debtors clerk Nontathu Guma.
Bryan shared, “We are so, so impressed with what these special people do, especially for those who are in frail care or mid-care.”
He added that it was a lovely spirit to see. Marie said she enjoyed the show very much and could see that there was a lot of effort put into the success of the event as well as the arrangements. “I could see the residents enjoying it so much and I enjoyed it even more.”
Chepape, the event coordinator, surprised everyone with an amazing dance performance.
After impressing the crowd and the judges with their charming outfits, the three winners were announced. The first-place winner was Rosemary Egba, who is known to be a longtime supporter of Garden Village, and the second and third-place victors were Janice Sherman and Elaine Burnham.
Egba shared that the event was very exciting as it reminded her of her youthful days. “I had started as a child model and built up on that.” Burnham added that she was glad Egba advised them on what to do when they went out in front of the people.
