Randburg Library hosts youth empowerment workshop

The Randburg Library held a Youth Day workshop in collaboration with a non-profit organisation.

In commemoration of Youth Day celebrated on June 16, the Randburg Library and City of Johannesburg and Infrastructure Services, collaborated with a non-profit organisation, ‘Motho ke Motho ka Batho’ (a person is a person because of other people), on June 15.

The subject of the day was directed at ‘future skills development for the youth’. Unemployment is a problem that today’s youth face, which is why corporations at large introduced initiatives to help alleviate the weight of the problem.

The Department of Employment and Labour’s Netshisaulu Mpfariseni shared insight about the Public Employment Services, tasks that would assist the youth and two programmes: the work-seeker services and employer services.

“The youth may not have access to information and resources that offer them employment,” said Mpfariseni.

The presentation also outlined UIF procedures and internal processes as well as different UIF pay-outs and benefit names. These include unemployment benefits, maternity benefits, illness benefits, paternity benefits, adoption benefits, dependent benefits, and how one could apply and access these benefits.

The spokesperson from Motho ke Motho ka Batho, Lebohang Monyokolo, revealed that the way of life is consistently changing. She advised the youth to set realistic and attainable goals – especially considering the scarcity of job availability. She also urged them to consider entrepreneurship and find ways to create jobs.
