Local football clubs play in celebration of Youth Day

Popular pub and grill in Zandspruit hosts a soccer tournament for Youth Day.

Adam Ndlovu, founder and owner of Dilo Stofong Pub and Grill, a vibrant communal eatery in Zandspruit, was the host for an U11 and U17 three-day tournament which kicked off on June 16.

In partnership with the Zandspruit Local Football Academy, 16 teams from both age divisions competed in the tournament.

The day of the semi-finals kicked off with the U11 Honeydew Celtics Football Club versus Fast Eleven Football Club, and the U17 Golang Football Club against Bridgetown Rovers Football Club. Later in the day, the U11 Highlanders Football Club played against Rampya Chiefs Football Club while the U17 Highlanders Football Club took on Eleven Attackers Football Club.

The U11 Honeydew Celtics FC were the champions of their age division, and team members walked away with a full soccer kit, medals, a trophy, a whistle, and three soccer balls while the runners-up walked away with a trophy, medals and a soccer ball.

The U17 Eleven Attackers FC were the champions of their age division. The players walked away with a full soccer kit, a trophy, medals and four soccer balls, while the runners-up took home medals, a trophy and two soccer balls.

“It was a very successful soccer tournament [with the fields filled to] 95% capacity of supporters,” said Ndlovu.
